Hi I've joined from Santiago, Chile where I now reside. I am working with a collective of foundations who are considering a community of practice. I am very familiar with the concept of CoP having studied Etinger and participated with a few myself. I hope to be inspired here as we start something similar in our work towards community inclusion in Chile.

I found it online - you can get it through Amazon (of course.... I think they can get anything that has ever been printed). But you can also google Digital Habitats and it takes you directly to their website, where I think you can buy it directly from them.

Hi Deb - Thanks again for your posts and for sharing about these great resources. I would really like to read 'Digital Habitats: Stewarding Technology for Communities.' but am having a hard time sourcing it. Do you know who the Publisher is? Where did you get your copy? Thanks. Becki

I forgot to mention that the book is co-authored by Etienne Wenger (co-creator of the communities of practice concept), Nancy White (incredible ideas about using technology with communities), and John D. Smith.

Hi - I've just joined this Ning network and this group. I'd like to suggest a new book that's out recently - it's Digital Habitats: Stewarding Technology for Communities. It's a great book - very practical and helpful. I think it emphasizes the idea that if you build it, people may come, but they may not keep coming. Online communities benefit from the support of a steward or facilitator.

I think that using facebook in conjunction with ning makes sense. Wordpress is great for content too. So I'm still explore working these sites in conjunction with each other without it become too complicated. Honestly, I've used a bunch of sites for my personal blogging. Working them together has been quite interesting. Not much resolution on that yet though.

It was interesting how much my personal blogging paralleled the content of the Toronto Summer Institute, Theory U, presencing, etc.

Your site looks great, Ron! How is it working for you? Are you seeing your desired outcomes? Have you learned anything from your experience so far that may be useful to others in this group? For the past few days, I have been specifically thinking about ways to help keep momentum building on networking sites and ways to encourage sharing and offering of rich content. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for sharing! It is good to hear from you. Becki
