Truth is i just managed to erase my post.. but.. here it is again...
Lynda & I were just in Rhode Island at the Facilitator's Forum - an ad-hoc decade old gathering of people committed to learning from each other about facilitating. We proposed that we do a 'reading' of Waddie Welcome - the book. People didn't say much - but you could almost hear the sighs of 'read a book? We came here to learn something.. etc' But happily there is a tradition of being willing to 'try stuff', so Waddie Welcome it was. Seven people volunteered to read.
An hour later, after much laughter and many tears, we reaffirmed the power of simply slowing down to listen. The power of the human voice has been mesmerizing people for millennia - but if we don't slow down - we never hear it. People recalled sitting with their grandmothers as they read in a big old sofa chair. People remembered their own "Addie Reeves" grandmothers who understood the essence of hospitality began with food - lots and lots of food. Stories bubbled up. And commitments emerged. People could see the healing and organizing power of Waddie Welcome in offices, churches, families - by sitting together and reading.
So many of us were once again 'kidnapped' by Mr. Waddie Welcome, and we look forward to the next chapters as new and additional stories emerge - and new people are kidnapped by Waddie.
