Profile Information

Please share something about yourself, your work, and what draws you to the Inclusion Network online community.
Learning from the experience of my disabled sister, Pat, I have had some great opportunities especially in England to promote inclusive public policies and support local efforts to achieve deep change in communities and services. I now call myself the 'Centre for Inclusive Futures'.
What would you like to contribute to this community? What would you like to receive?
John O'Brien has just posted an excerpt from a paper on sustainability and inclusion which we wrote together. It would be good to both contribute this work to a wider learning community and inform its UK development through international experience. I am also on the Programme Committee for Inclusion International's global Congress in Berlin, June2010 (details www.inclusion2010.de ). Conceivably network members may be interested in contributing to this important global discussion, focused on national implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
How did you hear about this community?
People in it started mailing me last night to join another ning site which carries the O'Brien/Towell paper.
What are some of the questions you'd like to explore, or conversations you'd like to have with others in this community?
My big theme is about how we can address the pre-eminent 21st Century challenge of sustainability (saving the planet and its peoples) in ways which continue to prioritise equal citizenship and inclusion. One big question may be enough for the time being!

As visitors to a neighbouring ning site, 'inclusiveandsustainable' know, my central interest is in how we can ensure that inclusion is part of the way we address the (other)big 21st Century issues, especially global sustainability. Clearly we can't advance inclusion if there is no world to be included in!…
