David Sibbet's New Book: Visual Meetings

David Sibbet taught many of us old timers group graphics and pioneered the use of graphic templates --of which MAPS & PATH are examples. He has supplemented his very useful set of beautifully produced (and expensive) specialized manuals with Visual Meetings: How graphics, sticky notes & idea mapping can transform group productivity. Very reasonably priced at your local bookstore or online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Anyone who wants to help any group do better work will benefit…See More

What is a good community? A view from England

My friend David Towell and I have had the chance to use The World Cafe explore some of the ways that people in two English localities make sense of the connections between local citizen action and policies that are intended to respond to climate change, sustainable economic development, resilience, and social inclusion and how our concern for the inclusion of people with disabilities fits into all this.I've attached a brief report of some of the thinking by a diverse group in Wiltshire as they…See More

We explored what we can learn from efforts to adapt service organizations and systems to the values of inclusion, person-centered supports, and self-determination.
These notes are primarily for the use of module participants; they may not make much sense to thise who were not part of the discussions.

Hi John
Well, the dust is settling and I've caught up on some sleep and am starting to make sense of the MAP/PATH course and get some practice in with some willing volunteers/victims at work.
Thank you for the course...the way you framed each day's learning was incredibly helpful and inspiring...you always manage to do both things...teach and inspire...
I'm just trying to find my own form of words for the questions and ideas...I was facilitating a meeting yesterday and lifted a couple of questions directly from my notes and what sounded fine coming out of your mouth fell flat with the weight of a Scottish accent and an Australian audience so I've got to find out my way of asking it.
People LOVED the question about what kind of interesting trouble they could get in to...absolutely loved it...it lit up the room...so thank you for that.
I wondered if you were likely to post your notes from the morning sessions on the network under the PATH/MAP group? And if you hadn't thought about it...would you mind doing that? And, of course, the great poetry thief that I am...could you give me some details about the poetry you read to us...the one about the white lion...the Hafiz piece and I wondered too where the Tuna Salad sandwich piece came from.
Thanks again John for all that you do...my apologies for my loud and cranky way of learning...it seemed louder and crankier than usual...I'm blaming that partly on the shock to my system of the distance travelled and partly on that just being a part of who I am!
Hope you are well...thank you again
Love, Heather
