Profile Information

Please share something about yourself, your work, and what draws you to the Inclusion Network online community.
I am a qualified Community Education Worker who has been drawn to working in person centred way long before I knew the term existed.I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time in the early 1990's when my immediate line managers were chosen to be part of a small group of managers in learning disability services in Scotland to receive training and input from Scottish Human Services.

The rest as they say is history. As part of a small team who provided a dedicated independent person centred planning/training service I was privileged to work with a wide range of people in all sorts of places and situations and with a variety of labels. Attending workshops and conferences, watching Dvds, reading articles and books - all provided the fuel inside me to work, live and be in as an inclusive a way as possible.

I am here because, even though that marvellous ground breaking work had to come to an end due to lack of finances, I still have a passion and thirst for this work.

To me, it is life blood.

As a woman with a "trans" history who has had to come out in a public way in my previous post/organisation, and who didn't really receive a lot of support in that process, I am now even more acutely aware of how it feels to be on the outside, and how one must constantly find a way to be a part whilst feeling apart.
What would you like to contribute to this community? What would you like to receive?
I want to offer my open heart, my warmth, my passion for teaching and facilitation and learning about myself and life. My passion for holistic ways of working, living and being. I guess I want to receive similar stuff from likeminded folks.
How did you hear about this community?
Through looking at the Inclusion Home Page.
What are some of the questions you'd like to explore, or conversations you'd like to have with others in this community?
I have now moved from the field of learning disability to working in the field of recovery with people who have the label of mental health issues/illnesses. It frustrates me at how much "reinventing of the wheel" there is in this sector in Scotland, and I would love to learn from others who are working at building inclusion for people with this label.
"Wisdom, Happiness, and Courage are not waiting somewhere out beyond sight at the end of a straight line; they're part of a continuous cycle that begins right here. They're not only the ending, but the beginning as well."

Hi Rose,

Thanks for your message - sorry, I didn't spot the friend request! We are 'friended' now, so all is well. I would love to talk to you about the community circle - it is STOPPING me talking about it that is the hard bit!! Why don't you just give me a call at the EDG office sometime? 0131 476 0522.

All the best,

Good to hear from you. Things well with me. Just had representatives from Quality Scotland in today to verify Quarriers Creative Facilitators Network for EFQM. We were awarded it with some very positive feedback. I'm delighted that this work has been formally recognised in this way for its good practice and commitment to improvement.

I'm expecting to be at the Institute so no doubt see you there. Have managed to do some exciting work with Connie O'Brien around the Pathfinders appraoch to group planning and hoping that we can secure a day with Jack around the Institute.

Look forward to catching up with you about all this activity. Take care, Alistair

Hi Rose,

Welcome to the group! I hope you find it an enjoyable thing to be part of. I think we are all finding that the more we each of us put in here, the more we all get out, so please just go for it and ask questions/ make comments/ get involved. Your input will be valued.

All the best,
